 Location

Wanchai is primarily a business and entertainment district between Admiralty and Causeway Bay. Most expatriates know the area for its bars and restaurants, and also for Immigration Tower where visas and identity cards are issued.

 Accommodation

Mainly high-rise and high density, Wanchai offers few residential options for expatriates. Prominent developments include Star Crest, close to Pacific Place, and Convention Plaza, part of the complex housing the Conference and Exhibition Centre.

 Transport

Wanchai is well served by public transport having several public bus and light bus routes, the tram, the MTR and ferries to Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom from Wanchai Ferry Pier.

 Shopping

Wanchai is the home of many ¡°factory outlets¡± offering bargains in clothing. For food shopping, there is a Park¡¯n¡¯Shop Super Store in the basement of the Hopewell Centre, and a large market area around Stone Nullah Lane.

 Medical

There are several private doctors¡¯ practices, particularly in the Convention Plaza office tower and the Great Eagle Centre. The Ruttonjee Hospital is located in the area.

 Education

There are few local schools in the Wanchai area. Most children would attend school in Causeway Bay or Midlevels.

 Recreation

Being heavily built-up, Wanchai offers few recreational facilities for families, although Southorn Playground provides a football court. The area is famous for its bars, although many of the ¡°girlie bars¡± of the Suzie Wong type have been closed. Lockhart Road is home to several types of bars and there are many options for restaurants, ranging from the ¡°cheap and cheerful¡± to the luxurious Grissini at the Grand Hyatt hotel. The HK Academy for Performing Arts is also in the area.
