Location
Shouson Hill is a quiet, green, hilly area on the south side of Hong Kong
Island just through the Aberdeen tunnel with a distinctly suburban feel to it.
This is an older residential area that has many older, larger, low-rise
properties with gardens and large old trees. Some of these older apartments are
being knocked down and new luxury developments are taking their place.
Accommodation
The area is low density and properties are low-rise apartments and houses. Many
developments, such as Las Pinadas, offer townhouses with small gardens and good
recreational facilities. The area is popular with wealthy Chinese and many
properties are owner-occupied. Some properties are in older condition and may
be in need of some renovation work.
Transport
With its close proximity to the Aberdeen Tunnel the commute into Central is
about 10 minutes but can take considerably longer during rush hour. Public
light buses are frequent and there are always passing taxis to take you into
central or shopping in nearby Repulse Bay, Aberdeen or Stanley village.
Deepwater Bay is well serviced with KMB buses and public light buses running
throughout the day between Central and Stanley.
Shopping
Park¡¯n¡¯Shop has recently opened a supermarket in the area, together with a
dry-cleaners and florist. More extensive amenities are available at Repulse Bay
or Aberdeen, or at the large supermarket at Hong Kong Parkview.
Medical
There are no medical facilities in the area but there is a doctor¡¯s surgery,
dentist and physiotherapist within the Repulse Bay shopping complex. The
nearest private hospital is the Adventist or Matilda hospitals, and the nearest
public hospital is the Queen Mary in Pokfulam.
Education
The area is in the ESF catchments area for Bradbury (junior) and South Island
School (seniors) and the Canadian and Singaporean International schools in
Aberdeen are a 10-minute drive. The Hong Kong International junior school is
located in Repulse Bay making it a very popular with American families. With-in
the shopping complexes in Repulse Bay there are International kindergartens and
pre-schools.
Recreation
The Hong Kong Country Club is to be found at the end of Shouson Hill Road, and
Ocean Park is a stone¡¯s throw away. The prestigious Aberdeen Marina Club is a
short drive away at Aberdeen. Middle Island Yacht Club is to the east and is
part of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. Sailing courses are run from here and
open to the public. Wind surfing and water skiing are popular activities on the
weekends. The beach is very popular and can become heavily congested on
weekends and public holidays. There are many restaurants in Repulse Bay
including ¡°The Verandah¡± which is one of Hong Kong¡¯s¡¯ top restaurants.
