 Location

Situated on the eastern coast of Lantau Island, Discovery Bay is a purpose-built resort-style development. Often referred to as ¡°DB¡± or ¡°Disco Bay¡±, the community is popular with both expatriates and local Chinese, particularly those with young children, who enjoy the ¡°away from Hong Kong¡± lifestyle, and the more reasonable rentals.

 Accommodation

DB offers a range of options from high-rise apartments, to low-rise complexes and houses with gardens. Many units have a balcony or terrace, whilst larger properties may have a garden or roof terrace. The majority of properties have sea views, whilst others enjoy open, green or mountain views. Rentals are generally lower than on Hong Kong Island.

 Transport

A 24-hour high-speed ferry service connects Discovery Bay with Hong Kong Island, approximately a 25-minute journey. Buses and a taxi service link the residential complexes with the ferry pier, and allow travel through the Discovery Bay Tunnel to Tung Chung and the Airport. No private cars are allowed within Discovery Bay but residents may rent or purchase a golf cart for travel around the development, although most facilities are within walking distance.

 Shopping

Discovery Bay Plaza has range of shops selling everything from wine to furniture. For food shopping there is an ¡°expat-friendly¡± Park¡¯n¡¯Shop Super Store, delicatessen, bakeries and cafes. There is also an HSBC bank and a veterinary surgery. More shops are available at Tung Chung, a 20-minute bus ride away.

 Medical

Discovery Bay has two private medical practices and a pharmacy. Urgent medical cases are transferred to Hong Kong Island.

 Education

The Discovery Bay International School (DBIS) follows the UK curriculum and provides education for children up to 11 years of age; older children travel to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon to study. There are also independently-run English and Chinese kindergartens, and a Chinese primary school. The ESF have plans to open an independent school in 2007 but this has yet to be confirmed by the Government.

 Recreation

There are several clubs for the use of residents and guests. Discovery Bay Residents Club offers two swimming pools, tennis and squash courts, a gym, indoor and outdoor children¡¯s play-areas, a bar and restaurants, and many activities. The main club house is located close to the ferry pier and a second club house has recently opened within the Siena complex. There is also a Marina Club and a Golf Club. Children¡¯s play-areas are located in each residential complex as well as on the beach, which is wide and sandy and very popular with children. Restaurants include Korean, Asian, Indian, Italian and seafood, providing dine-in, take-away or delivery options.
